The NAACP NYC Housing Authority Branch Health Committee is dedicated to addressing health-related challenges impacting African American and underserved communities, with a primary focus on public housing residents. Through strong partnerships with resident leaders and community-based organizations—and in collaboration with our Environmental Justice Committee—we work to promote equitable access to healthcare services and reduce health disparities.
Our efforts center on education and awareness, with workshops focused on critical health issues such as breast cancer, high blood pressure, and mental health. In neighborhoods identified as food deserts, members from both our youth and adult branches actively support weekly food pantries to combat food insecurity.
Our newest signature initiative, “Total Wellness Tuesday,” brings the community together for lunchtime line dancing—encouraging movement, wellness, and connection in a fun and accessible way.
